Checked out a dirt jump park just outside of Baltimore City on Labor Day. The park we checked out was on the down-low because it’s on public land and unsanctioned; so I know you won’t mind if I don’t tell you the name or the location of this spot.
Bottom line: this place is SICK. Gary told me that I was “gonna be like WHAAAAT?!” when I saw the layout and he was right. I couldn’t believe how well built this park was. Whoever pitched in on building and up-keeping this park has worked their asses off.
There were countless lines you could ride and easily spend all day doing it. Best of all, there is something there for everyone; really big stuff, really small stuff, and everything in between. There’s even a dual slalom track that’s fun as shit to ride against your buddies on. The lines on the slalom intersect in more than one location so you can even race more than one person at the same time.
I took my Nikon D5000 to shoot some video and photos. It was my first time using this camera, so I am just getting used to it. I’m not happy with what I got, but I promise to get better the more I use this camera.
Oh, one more thing; there were three cool kids who showed up; Alex, Brian, and John. These guys were good dirt jumpers and had some giant cohones. Alex was a standout in particular. He told me he was Maryland’s BMX State Champ four years running (not verified by me but this kid hit every single line and massive ramp in the park). Alex was sick.
I just thought you would like to know that these jumps go by “hickoryhurst”. I live right by them.
Thanks TJ. We didn’t know. We’ve been calling the area “7 Courts.” I’ll be sure to use the proper name moving forward.
hey where are these jumps located, i ride in robert e lee a pretty good amount, and there are always a few little guys who shred all the jumps there who you guys should check out, i see them down there all the time when the weather is dry.
Hey There – This park is in Baltimore County off the beltway – exit 32 if memory serves. Hickoryhurst Drive is where they are off of hence the name. The area is basically all residential with a complex of condos that the park is directly behind. Also, we’ve shot at Robert E. Lee before….here is that shoot. Not much but we will go back when the days are a bit longer.
are those trails still there?? New to maryland.
Yes, they are. More accessible and more public however is this – http://www.rockburnskillspark.org/. It is not gnarly but really fun. Plus you will meet all kinds of new people you can ride with in other areas.
